| FAQs |
Can I use my meal plan to buy a meal for a guest?Yes there are a certain amount of guest meals allotted per semester with each meal plan. The Silver meal plan has 4 guest meals per semester, the Gold plan has 8 guest meals per semester and the Platinum plan has 16 guest meals per semester. To provide your guest(s) a meal in any residence hall dining center you must have your Tech express ID card scanned for your meal first and then inform the ID checker to deduct the number of guest meals for those you wish to treat. You and Your guests must be present together in the dining hall during the meal. You may never lend your Tech Express card, nor may you scan in a guest and leave the guest unattended in the dining hall. Can I eat more than 3 meals a day in the dining room?Yes. Your meal plan allows you unlimited access to the dining rooms during regular hours of operation. There is no limit to the number of times you can enter a dining room to eat a complete meal, stop in for a snack, pop in for a pop (or do you say soda?) or catch a late lunch. Each time you enter the dining room you must have your Tech Express card scanned. I'd like to earn some extra cash for spending money. Is it possible to apply for part-time employment on-campus?Yes. You may apply for part-time employment online here or when you arrive on campus. Many residents are hired in the cafeterias or on the custodial crews. Applications will be available during the week of Orientation. Watch for postings. In addition, the University Career Center posts other jobs that are available to students. Why does my bill say that I live in one hall but am supposed to eat in another? On your student bill, you may notice that it indicates your meal plan is set for a Dining Hall that is different then your residence hall room. This was caused by some incorrect coding on our computer system. But no worries about the meal plan listing on your bill, you are welcome to eat in any residence dining hall of your choice. If I'm a commuter, can I still get a meal plan? There are two meal plans for commuter students. The Top Dog meal plan can be purchased in blocks of 10, 25, 50, or 75 meals. The more meals you purchase the less you pay per meal. This plan can be used in any residence dining hall (Douglas Houghton Hall, McNair Hall or Wadsworth Hall.)with all-you-care-to-eat buffet style dining. The Big Dog express meal account is designed for those who dine frequently in our retail dining outlets-MUB Food Court, Aftermath Café, Campus Café, Mount Ripley Ski Hill Huski Café, Athletic Concessions and selected vending machines throughout campus. This account is like a debit card system, and depending on how much you deposit we’ll add a percentage. If you deposit $25-$99.99, we add 3 percent, if you deposit $100-$199.99, we add 4 percent, if you deposit $200 or more, we deposit 5 percent. Both commuter meal plans may be purchased at the Tech Express located in the IT Service Center, on the first floor of the Van Pelt and Opie Library. Details of these plans may be viewed at www.dining.mtu.edu. Click on retail dining and then on off campus meal plans. Commuter students may purchase any one of the three unlimited access meal plans by stopping at the Dining Services office room 101 Memorial Union. Details of these plans can be viewed at www.dining.mtu.edu. Click on residential dining and then on meal plans. What's the table tent policy in the Residence Halls?Table Tents are permitted in the dining halls following the approval and scheduling by the Dining Services office, located in room 101 of the Memorial Union. They are intended to be announcements for current campus events. Prior to printing, bring one copy of the table tent to the Dining Services office for approval. Once approval has been given, the organization that is sponsoring the table tent must place these tents in the Dining Halls on the approved day. They may be placed in the dining halls for a two-day period. Table tents cannot be discriminatory in regard to race, religion, color, national origin, age, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, height, weight, marital status, disabled veteran status, veteran status, arrest record, or disability. Also, you cannot use the color lime green. This color is reserved for important Residence Hall information. A limited number of table tents per day is set for each residence hall dining hall. The number of table tents per hall is Wadsworth Hall: 97 table tents, McNair Hall: 50 table tents, Douglass Houghton Hall: 35 table tents.
